Supporting strategy and decision making across the University.

Content Section

Our mission is to support strategic and operational planning across the University.  We do this by providing a range of information, support and advice, including provision of business intelligence, monitoring and assessing the institution’s performance and coordinating the planning process.

We undertake the following types of activities:

Contribution to policy and strategy

  • To manage the University’s planning processes, systems of performance measurement and risk management.
  • To provide professional administrative support to a range of reviews, bids and academic initiatives.

Support for decision making

  • We analyse internal and external management information, and combine this with an understanding of internal and external policy drivers, to provide advice and guidance to inform University strategy.
  • We undertake forward planning and modelling, specifically of student numbers and tuition fee income.
  • We manage the organisation of information so that it is reported across the organisation and externally in a consistent and appropriate way.
  • We support and help to implement organisational change through organisational reviews and change management exercises.

Delivery of services

Management of risk through statutory compliance

  • We complete and submit the annual Student and Staff Returns to HESA, as well as the HESES and Research Activity Survey returns.
  • We manage the Destination of Leavers of Higher Education return to HEFCE.
  • These returns are statutory requirements, which drive funding and impact upon league tables.
